XML Viewer is a very nice program ;) and it can be more nice with these features:

- Automatic association with *.XML files (from the installer or from XML Viewer);
- Auto-expanding tree when open a new *.XML file.

The viewer has a 'View' items added to XML files context menus, you could use that instead of association. And if there isn't any 'Open' command defined for XML files by some source code editor application, the View command becomes the default one.

In the Actions menu there is a 'Expand on load' option that makes the tree expands automatically when the file opens.

In XML viewer, you should be able to open more than one file at a time, and tab between them.
