Hi guys,

I noticed there're almost everything necessary for a basic application in WinForm suite except a popular Ribbon control. Just wonder do we have any plan for that? Looking forward to having it. Or I have to buy another package for that. I believe in you guys design, it's not a big deal for you!

Thank you!

Kyle

Hi,

Microsoft seem to have some patents on the Ribbon UI and require licensing http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/aa973809.aspx, so we'll have to research the legal side of this first Smiley

Anyways, Windows 7 and newer versions contain a native Ribbon control, for which you can find .NET wrapper library here:
http://windowsribbon.codeplex.com/

I hope that helps,
Stoyan

What a shame for MS to make it a patents...
OK, I have to wait, still some customers are using WinXP... I'll continue to use that one from ComponentOne. Hope MS can make it a free libraray..

They do offer it for free with five libraries listed on the page linked above (no Windows Forms one though), but it seems you have to accept their license agreement stating you won't be using it in a competitive product to any of the MS Office applications.

I'll just mention that I use the Developer Express WinForms product and like it very much. It includes a ribbon control, along with hundreds of other controls. And just like MindFusion, DevExpress has very good customer service.

As for licensing, there is a Microsoft page where you can sign their license agreement online, and that's that. Do a search for "Microsoft Office Fluent UI licensing". About the only requirements are that you should say something like "The Microsoft Office Fluent UI is licensed from Microsoft" in your program documentation somewhere, and that you must not use it in a product that competes with a Microsoft Office program, i.e., don't use it to make an Excel-killer.

Kyle,

I don't know if you're still following this thread, but there's a screen shot showing one of the forms I have to mixes the DevExpress ribbon control and MindFusion diagramming on this thread: http://mindfusion.eu/Forum/YaBB.pl?num=1367851045
