Selection rectangle on table cells

When I click on a cell within a table it automatically starts the selection rectangle and the selection rectangle will keep following my mouse around until I click somewhere outside of the table.

How can I just completely disable the selection rectangle for cells within a table.  When the user clicks within a table I do not want the selection rectangle to be displayed.

Normally selection should not be started after a click. Are you handling any of the mouse-down related events in a way that would set the mouse capture to another control? E.g. by displaying a message box or a dialog box?
