I hope that when the user click a blank area does not create nothing but start a multiple selection.

We have implemented interactive multiple selection just last week. Try this pre-release build of the control:

If Diagram.Behavior is set to Modify, dragging with the mouse from a blank area would draw a selection rectangle. For any other Behavior value, multiple selection can be started using the Ctrl key.
