Trying to edit XML file

I am new to XML Viewer. How do you make edits? I have a file open and show it in the XML Source but cannot make any edits. Plus the cut, copy and paste icons in the toolbar are grayed out. What am I doing wrong?

The 'XML Source' view is read-only. You can edit the XML file through the main tree view by adding new nodes or modifying existing nodes.
