I need to be able to identify DiagamLinks. I noticed the Id field does not get set automatically. Should I set it myself and use it? Or is there some other identifier I could use?

The control does not assign identifiers automatically. You could set Id to the value of an integer counter or a Guid instance each time a new link is created. You can find an example here:
