Success.  The problem was on my end.

Your last suggestion about using the nulls failed.  I decided to try a clean install by removing everything and using the orginial v3 install.  I was unable to rename the Mindfusion directory which indicated something was loaded in memory, even though no Visual Studios instances were running.
I rebooted my machine, ran the planner install and did a remove all.  Mindfusion directory was still present so I physically removed it.  Reinstalled v3, opened VS and all worked.  Shut VS down, applied the new updates and reopend VS and all is well.  Thanks for the effort and fast response.
