I am a complete newbie using mindfusion products. It must be somewhere on your site, but I haven't been able to locate relatively complete sample code to do things like add a shape and implementing MVC.

Where would I find this?

Hi,

You can find complete sample code in the "samples" folder in the jdiagram.zip file. For example on how to create nodes from code, check the DirTree or PredShapes projects. Here's another sample that builds a diagram from a mySql database:
